Russian and American Symbols
Each country has its own national symbols. Speaking about American symbols we must say about the national hymn. It is called «The Star-Spangled Banner».
One of the most famous symbols of the USA is the Statue of Liberty. France gave the Statue to America in 1884 as a symbol of friendship.
The eagle became the official national symbol of the country in 1782. You can see the eagle on the back of the dollar bill.
As there are 50 states in America, there are 50 stars on the American flag — one star for each state. The flag has got 13 stripes — for the first 13 colonies of America. The flag is red, white and blue. It is called «Stars and Stripes». American people are very proud of their flag.
Uncle Sam is a cartoon symbol of the American government.
Our country has national symbols, too. One of them is the national flag. It has 3 red, blue and white stripes on it. Another symbol of Russia is the birch tree. The double-headed eagle is the emblem of Russia. You can see it on the back of Russian coins. We have a national hymn, which children learn at school.
All people must know about their national symbols.
